ETX Capital Case Study

In early 2017, ETX Capital launched a redesign of their entire website and platform, making it easier and more intuitive to use. We decided to set up a test account with ETX Capital to test different aspects of their platform.

1. The sign-up process

As we’re using a Mac, we decided to sign up for ETX Capital’s TraderPro platform (as MT4 only runs on PC).

Signing up with ETX Capital takes about two minutes. After clicking ‘get started’ on their website and entering your email address, ETX Capital redirect you to their ETX TraderPro platform.

From here you can begin demo’ing the platform, or to start trading you can simply fill out the short three-step signup form on the right.

Depending on your circumstances, you’ll then either be automatically redirected into your live account or your account will need to be approved manually.

2. Customising the platform

Before we make a trade, it’s important to get the platform set up in a way that shows all of the information we need.

By default, the platform has a very minimalistic interface with little information. To customise this you can click the three ‘display’ icons at the top of the screen and choose between seven pre-built layouts ranging from basic to advanced. As you can see below, we chose one of the basic layouts and changed the platform’s theme from dark to light.

ETX Capital customisation

You can also create your own desired layout and then save this as a custom layout to display all of the information you want every time you log in.

3. Making a trade

Let’s say you want to trade a major currency pair such as euro dollar. To do this you can either search ‘EURUSD’ in the search box or simply navigate to it from the left hand menu.

  ETX Capital instruments

Once found, you can click the information icon to see the margin required, the spreads, minimum position, and more.

  trade information

If you want to view the charts for this instrument, click the chart icon and from here you can choose from eight different charts, including candlestick charts, HLOC, line charts, area charts, plot charts, cloud charts, three line break charts, and Heikin-Ashi charts.

Once you decide whether to buy or sell, you can set the quantity, stop loss, limit order and open a position. Unlike many brokers, ETX Capital offer trailing stops, as well as guaranteed stop losses.

  trade EURUSD

After confirming the trade the position will now appear in your open positions tab at the bottom of the platform. You will also receive an order confirmation email, along with a reference number for that specific trade.

ETX Capital also make it easy to set up email alerts with customisable messages when instruments meet a certain buy or sell price.

4. Customer support

When choosing a broker, it’s important that they have good customer support. ETX Capital’s support information is all displayed in the right hand sidebar of their platform.

As you can see below, ETX Capital offer phone support from 7.30am - 9pm, as well as email support. ETX Capital is based at One Broadgate in London, so their customer support work on the GMT timezone.

As ETX Capital are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, they have an established procedure for handling complaints.

According to their official complaints procedure, all complaints must first be sent to their customer service team using the email or phone numbers. If unresolved, your complaint is then dealt with impartially by their compliance team. If still unresolved, you can contact the Financial Ombudsman Service.

5. Conclusion

ETX Capital’s TraderPro platform is extremely intuitive and easy to use. As an established spread betting broker, ETX Capital have virtually all of the features that you’d expect from a professional-grade trading platform.

Financial spread bets and CFD trades are leveraged products, which means you could lose more than your deposits. If you’re hazy on exactly what that means, you shouldn’t trade.
